My nine year CSF leak journey

Read all about my nine years with a spinal CSF leak here: https://beckyhillblog.com/2024/02/06/nine-years-with-a-spinal-csf-leak/

It’s been extremely hard living with these conditions for 10 years. However, the hardest years were perhaps the earlier years of unanswered questions, of doctors not always knowing what to do and when none of us really understood the full extent of my injury and how best to manage it.

Since 2020, when I was diagnosed and finally treated for arachnoiditis with IV and oral steroids, my life has actually got a lot easier and much more functional. I still have full blown relapses around every 12-18 months. But now I have a proven treatment plan I can bounce back so much quicker than I ever could prior to diagnosis and treatment.

I still have constant horrible and debilitating neurological symptoms all day every day. And yet I live a full life. When not in a relapse I walk over 10k steps a day which helps manage my symptoms, I can be upright most of the day as long as I have enough ‘flat resting’ in the late afternoon and evening. I have been able to watch my kids grow, manage our household and as a church leader support my husband in his role as Pastor of our Church.

Having a leak and Arachnoiditis can sometimes feel impossible. I can never downplay how awful it can be and yet I have discovered a wonderful life despite it. It’s not always easy, there are many challenges and unknowns about the future. But it’s still definitely a life worth living! And I am glad I get to encourage others to keep on choosing to discover new ways of living through my blog writings and videos.
