Draft Guidelines for Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension (SIH)

We are delighted to invite you to participate in a public consultation on a draft guideline for the clinical management of Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension (SIH) secondary to spinal CSF leaks.

This is the culmination of nearly two years' hard work by members of a multidisciplinary Special Interest Group (SIG) led by Dr Manjit Matharu (Associate Professor, UCL and Honorary Consultant, NHNN) with stellar input from Dr Sanjay Cheema (Clinical Research Fellow, UCL).

The special interest group is composed of neurologists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, anaesthetists and headache nurses actively involved in delivering care to SIH patients, as well as a number of current and former leakers. We held a series of day-long meetings which, due to Covid, had to be held virtually. In addition to attending the meetings there was a huge amount of work done by all members in between meetings including running a patient survey and a healthcare professional survey. Although the guideline is aimed at clinicians including GPs and emergency medicine doctors, we believe the patient voice to be central in discussions about diagnosis and treatments so please grab this opportunity with both hands and give us your *feedback before the deadline of 5pm Sunday 24th July.
